News have found over the years is that many of our female readers have often said that fashion stores do not cater for the mature aged woman, which seems unbelievable with our rapidly ageing population. And, another observation by them is that many stores have stereotypical ideas about older people and do not believe in the importance of providing women in this demographic with stylish clothes. So, we want to spread the word that age is no barrier to looking good and feeling good.
During the last 12 months we have received many calls and notes from readers, including a former seniors' minister, praising the fact that finally there is a company focusing on fashions for women aged 50 and over and whose proprietor wants to provide them with quality made, stylish and affordable clothes.
Karen Wardrop, who owns and runs Kings Park Fashions, says she is constantly delighted and inspired by the women she meets everyday who love to dress up and look terrific. “I’ve have ladies who are so proud of the way they look and feel when they try on new outfits. I just love it when they look at themselves in the mirror and give a big smile because they like what they see.”
By providing a great range of garments, including larger sizes, specifically for this age group and offering a Seniors Card discount, Kings Park Fashions have quickly built a reputation as one of the best places in Perth to shop if you are more than 50.
The business started with and continues a mobile visiting service to retirement villages, bowling clubs, probus groups and the like. They conduct entertaining fashion parades that are a lot of fun because they include models from the audience. Karen said, “I go to provide the entertainment but I end up being entertained by the ladies in the parades. Most ladies are in their 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, but we’ve had quite a few women who are in their 90s and even a lady who was 101”.
Because of their convenience, these visits to villages and clubs have proved to be enormously popular and inspired Kings Park Fashions to open two retail stores located in Myaree and Rockingham to provide an even better service for customers.
Since opening both stores this year Karen has been overwhelmed by the response. “We have ladies driving from miles away to see our stores because they say no-one caters specially for them like we do. We even have groups of ladies who come by bus to the stores. We put on morning or afternoon tea for them while they shop”.
Kings Park Fashions stock an enormous range of clothing for ladies aged 50 years and upward, ranging from casual attire through to smart semi-formal and eveningwear. They also stock accessories and underwear.
So ladies don’t panic this festive season when you think you having nothing stylish to wear, Kings Park Fashions have provided you with a fashion store that stocks clothes to ensure that you look stylish and feel good not just for this season but also all year round.
Their stores are located at Hulme Court (just off McCoy Street) in Myaree and Sunray Village (off Patterson Road near Kent Street) in Rockingham and their fashion parades are made by appointment.
